Conservation Lands Assistant

The successful candidate will assist the Stewardship, Land and Education Department in a variety of tasks relating to land management and conservation area projects of the Conservation Authority. 

Duties may include: 
  • Assisting in the maintenance, restoration, rehabilitation and protection of ABCA properties. 
  • Maintaining grassed areas and trails using power equipment such as mowers and trimmers and hand tools such as pruners and saws. 
  • Assisting with repairs to boardwalks and other structures.
  • Assisting for forest management projects and inventories. 
  • Assisting with gatekeeper and maintenance duties at Rock Glen Conservation Area. 
  • Working towards a diploma from an accredited college or degree from an accredited university in landscape management, forestry, or environmental studies. 
  • Knowledge and skills to safely operate small tractors, mowers and other field equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in adverse environmental conditions.
  • Team player with good organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use personal computers with Windows operating system, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.), Internet, electronic mail software applications, and digital cameras.
  • Eligible to participate in the Summer Employment Opportunity job program. Candidates must be students or recent graduates (in the past six months), Ontario residents and legally entitled to work in Canada and as of May 15, be between the ages of 15 and 24, or up to 29 with a disability.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence.

Remuneration: $15.99 to 17.99 per hour depending on qualifications and experience 

Hours: 35 hours per week
