Job Posting – Stewardship Technician - Contract Position – March–December 2018

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) is accepting applications for the contract position of Stewardship Technician. The contract may be extended beyond 2018. 

The Stewardship Technician will assist the Stewardship, Land and Education Department implement stewardship projects and manage ABCA properties. 

The position will focus on tree planting, ecosystem restoration, agricultural best management practices and forest management. 

Duties may include:  
  • Work with landowners for the purposes of promoting and completing stewardship and ecological restoration projects that will improve/protect water quality, aquatic habitat, forest conditions and healthy watersheds.  
  • Help implement the ABCA Afforestation Program including tree delivery program, lead hand planting crew, complete survival assessments and other program components. 
  • Provide technical assistance to landowners and links to financial incentive programs and promote soil conservation to agricultural producers including cover crops and structural Best Management Practices (BMPs). 
  • Assist with forest management and risk management activities on ABCA properties. 
  • Prepare and present reports to ABCA Board of Directors, funding partners and community groups. 
  • Supervise casual staff and summer students. 
  • University degree or a diploma from an accredited College in ecosystem restoration, agricultural science or natural resource management. 
  • Knowledge of ecosystem restoration practices, agricultural soil and water conservation practices and forest management. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers with Windows operating system, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), Internet, electronic mail software applications, and digital cameras. 
  • Ability to work outdoors and in adverse environmental conditions. 
  • Team player with good organization, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills. 
  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada and possess a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence. 

Remuneration: $25.46 – $31.83 per hour depending on qualifications and experience  

Hours: 35 hours per week
